$150 Gold Coins

The Royal Canadian Mint produced its first $150 gold coin in 2000. The theme of the first coin in 2000 was the Year of the Dragon, based on the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The dragon coin was the first in a 12 coin series ending in 2011 with the Year of the Rabbit. All 12 of the coins were produced using 18kt gold, contained a holographic design, and weighed 13.61 grams. A different 12 coin Chinese Lunar Calendar series began in 2010 with the Year of the Tiger produced in 18kt gold, weighing 11.84 grams, and does not contain a holographic design. From 2009-2012 a series of scalloped $150 blessings coins in .99999 pure gold were produced annually. The themes for the 4 coins were wealth (2009), strength (2010), happiness (2011), and good fortune (2012).
