2007 provided a first for the Royal Canadian Mint, the production of a 99.99% pure silver 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds, 32.15 troy ounces) coin with a face value of $250. The coin was minted as part of a series celebrating the upcoming Winter Olympics in Vancouver and due to its massive success the Royal Canadian Mint has continued production of different kilogram coins each year since.

After the success of the 1/2 ounce pure silver timber wolf in 2006 the Royal Canadian Mint decided to start a wildlife series in 2011. The coins in the series are 1 troy ounce of .9999 pure silver with a $5 face value, similar to a silver maple leaf. 2011 saw the mintage of a timber wolf and grizzly coin, while 2012 saw the mintage of a moose and a cougar coin. Each 1 ounce coin has a mintage of 1,000,000, while the original 1/2 ounce coin had a mintage of roughly 107,000.

In 2011 the Royal Canadian Mint decided to create a series of $20 face value pure silver coins which it would sell at face value. These have proven quite popular, with each of the 4 coins in the series selling out quickly. Two coins were released in both 2011 and 2012. 2011 saw the mintage of the five maple and canoe coins. 2012 saw the mintage of a polar bear and Queen's diamond jubilee coin.
