Royal Canadian Mint Chinese Lunar Calendar Coins

First Lunar Series

The Royal Canadian Mint began production of the first lunar animals series of 12 coins in 1998 and released a new coin annually until 2009. The 12 coins which reflected the changing lunar calendar are: Tiger (1998), Rabbit (1999), Dragon (2000), Snake (2001), Horse (2002), Sheep (2003), Monkey (2004), Rooster (2005), Dog (2006), Pig (2007), Rat (2008), and Ox (2009). Each animal appears in a circular arrangement around the rim of each coin, with a different animal highlighted each year in a central cameo. Each coin was produced in sterling silver with a face value of $15 and varying mintages.

Second Lunar Series (Non-Scalloped)

A new series produced by the Royal Canadian Mint after the success of the first Chinese Lunar Calendar series. This series is produced in .9999 silver and features a $15 face value. The series will be produced annually until 2021 in the following order: Tiger (2010), Rabbit (2011), Dragon (2012), Snake (2013), Horse (2014), Sheep (2015), Monkey (2016), Rooster (2017), Dog (2018), Pig (2019), Rat (2020), and Ox (2021).

Second Lunar Series (Scalloped)

A new series produced by the Royal Canadian Mint after the success of the first Chinese Lunar Calendar series. This series features scalloped edges reminiscent of a lotus flower. This series is produced in sterling silver and features a $15 face value. The series will be produced annually until 2021 in the following order: Tiger (2010), Rabbit (2011), Dragon (2012), Snake (2013), Horse (2014), Sheep (2015), Monkey (2016), Rooster (2017), Dog (2018), Pig (2019), Rat (2020), and Ox (2021).
